Uhuru Garden Botanical Survey Report & How You Can Help Preserve Mombasa’s Green Spaces

This report presents the findings of a botanical survey of Uhuru Garden, Mombasa’s historic 1.1-hectare green space, conducted in June 2025 by Mwadime Nyange, Leon Kenya, and Cathy Watson in partnership with Together4Climate. It documents 55 tree and shrub species — including rare and threatened ones — and highlights the Garden’s critical role in biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and public health in the city. The report outlines threats to this ecosystem and recommends ways to protect and improve it as a refuge for native coastal forest species.
